Make money blogging with WordPress
Yes, it is possible to make money blogging. You can make a living with WordPress but we’re not introducing any “get-rich-quick schemes” here and we hope that’s not what you’re expecting from this post. You must invest a little time and effort to see the results. Working from home, contrary to popular belief, is not a breeze, quite the opposite. But that is a different story that we’ll leave it for some other time.
There are many ways to make money blogging with WordPress but in this particular post, we’ll focus on a specific one - joining WordPress themes affiliate programs. It is free, there’s no money to invest, all you need is a blog, some writing skills and a little ambition.
How does it work?
First, you must own a blog. If you can’t afford to have your own domain or pay for the hosting, you can create a blog for free at Blogger or WordPress.com.
Once you set up your blog you must start thinking about a plan. What will you be writing about, what steps should you take? If you’ll join the affiliate programs that I’m going to list below, you can:
- promote or review WordPress products themes and plugins
- curate lists of WordPress themes categorized by niche or features
- create and publish YouTube videos where you can demonstrate how to set up a WordPress product or its features
- share your lists, opinions, reviews, videos on Social Media
- create a list of subscribers to send them weekly posts
When your blog is mature enough and you’re starting to gain a decent traffic, you can:
- earn money with Google Adsense
- publish sponsored posts, banners, ads (the sponsors could be product developers)
- sell ads
- get paid for premium listings (product developers would gladly pay you for their product inclusion in a list that has high traffic and generates them sales)
- apply for WordAds
How do you earn money?
Most WordPress themes and plugins stores usually have affiliate programs where you can apply for free. Once accepted you get the banners and affiliate links that will help you to start promoting/reviewing their products. Place these links in your high-quality blog posts. Make sure the content is unique, original, otherwise Google will penalize it and you will never get organic traffic.
When one of your visitors makes a purchase after clicking your affiliate link, the merchant credits you with money. If you want to understand how affiliate links work, read ScottHurdato.com’s excellent article.
All you have to do is set up a blog, join the affiliate programs listed below and start blogging about merchants’ products. We’ve gathered a small list to get you started with a short description of each affiliate program:
- Commission - the money you’re credited with after a successful sale lead
- Cookie Duration - the time for a customer to make a purchase so you can be credited with your commission
- Join - the link where you can apply to join the affiliate program
